Even though traditional braces are a solid option for treating crooked teeth, more and more people are turning to Invisalign® at our Brookfield, WI practice. Invisalign® is an invisible orthodontics alternative to traditional brackets and wires, allowing patients to have straight, beautiful teeth without the self-consciousness of traditional braces.
Invisalign® is simple and straightforward, and patients will be asked to visit Brookfield Family Dentistry multiple times during treatment for regular monitoring of their treatment process. Dr. Thomas Tang and his team would like to go over the basics of these regular visits below. Let’s start from the very beginning.
Initial Consultation for Invisalign®
During the initial consultation for Invisalign®, we will be able to determine if Invisalign® is the right treatment option for you and your needed. We’ll note the nature of your tooth misalignment and how these matters can be properly corrected.
Candidates for Invisalign® will have a full treatment plan computer generated just for them. They will then proceed to wear their clear plastic aligner trays for two weeks at a time to help straighten their teeth.
Visiting the Dentist for Follow-Up Care
While undergoing Invisalign® treatment, patients will visit their dentist once every 6 weeks to 12 weeks. The frequency will depend on the nature of the patient’s treatment, the complexity of their case, and any other needs that require professional attention.
What Happens During Follow-Up Visits
During these Invisalign® follow-up visits, a dentist will simply check the patient’s teeth to ensure the treatment process is progressing as planned. During these visits, patients can also ask their dentists questions and express any concerns they may have about the treatment process.
How Long Are Invisalign® Follow-Up Visits?
These regular follow-up visits tend to last no more than 15 minutes. They will only require more time if the patient’s tooth alignment is not on schedule or the patient is experiencing issues that require more attention.
What About Problems Between Visits?
If a patient experiences any problems between these regular Invisalign® check-ups, they are encouraged to contact our practice as soon as possible. Whether it’s a missing aligner tray, pain or discomfort during treatment, or other problems, we want to make sure that you have these matters addressed in a timely fashion. Your health and wellness is our concern.
The Last Invisalign® Appointment
When Invisalign® is completed, patients will have one last visit to address long-term tooth alignment needs. The dentist will remove any additional orthodontic appliances that were placed as part of the treatment process. Once that is done, an impression is taken of your straightened teeth to create a retainer. This also gives you a chance to see a before and after comparison of the Invisalign® treatment. The positive changes to your smile can be dramatic in the best possible way.
Typically, the final Invisalign® check-up lasts about 45 minutes to an hour.
Overall Invisalign® Treatment Time
Overall, patients will wear Invisalign® aligners from anywhere between a year to two years. This is roughly the same amount of time they would spend wearing traditional braces.
