If you need a dental crown, Dr. Thomas Tang offers same-day crowns for the ultimate of convenience to his patients in the Brookfield, WI area. To learn more about the benefits of same-day crowns, read on to learn about the differences between same-day vs. traditional crowns.

Placing Traditional Crowns

Traditional crowns require two dental visits for placement. At the first appointment, your dentist will remove the decayed or damaged portions of the tooth. The remaining tooth structure will be molded into a shape to accommodate the crown.

Impressions are taken of the teeth and sent to a dental lab where the crown is made. In some cases, patients may be given a temporary crown to wear while they wait for their permanent restoration.

About two weeks later, when the crown is ready, you return to the dental practice. Your dentist will ensure that the crown fits in with your smile and complements bite patterns. Some minor adjustment may be made, and then the crown is cemented into place.

Placing Same-day Crowns

Creating your same-day crown is a multi-step process that is completed in mere hours. Computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technologies allows for the planning, design, and fabrication of a porcelain crown in our office. Same-day crowns are made with high levels of precision and accuracy, using top-quality IPS e.max® porcelain.

To begin, your dentist will prepare your tooth by removing the damaged tooth structure. Next, the dentist will use a specialized scanning technology that takes detailed impressions of your tooth. This information is sent to the milling machine.

Your customized dental crown is then crafted to the precise dimensions of your tooth. The dental-grade ceramic is also designed to match the shade of your surrounding natural teeth.

Making your dental crown takes about an hour, during which you can simply relax and wait at our office.

When the same-day crown is ready, your dentist will check that the restoration matches your bite and allows you to speak without any problems. Lastly, your restoration is cemented over the treated tooth.
