CEREC® One-Visit Dental Bridges
Traditionally, having a dental bridge placed requires two visits to your dentist. During the first visit, adjacent teeth would be prepared for crowns, and a mold would be taken of the gap to be bridged. Two weeks later, after fabrication in an off-site laboratory, a custom bridge would be placed during a second visit. But at our practice, we use CEREC® (or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) with CAD-CAM (Computer-assisted Design – Computer-assisted Manufacture) technology to create bridges, crowns, inlays and onlays for you in a single visit.
After capturing a 3D image of your teeth, the CEREC® software will guide a special milling machine in creating your custom bridge from a single block of porcelain, specially selected to match the color of your existing teeth. If your bridge must be anchored by dental crowns, your full bridge will usually be completed by the time adjacent teeth are prepared to receive the crowns. In a single visit, the need for temporary crowns and subsequent visits is eliminated, and you leave with a full, beautiful smile.
Benefits of CEREC®
- CEREC® dental bridges can be fitted, crafted, and placed during a single visit to Dr. Tang’s office.
- CEREC® eliminates the need for temporary crowns, reducing the risk of interim discomfort and eliminating the need for a second visit.
- CEREC® in some cases can save money for you and the dentist, as extraneous costs, such as lengthy preparation of dental bridges by outside lab technicians, are eliminated.
Caring for Your Dental Bridge
As with any dental prosthesis, dental bridges require excellent dental hygiene on the part of the patient to ensure the most satisfying results. It is important to pull floss straight through from front to back when flossing under and beside your dental bridge. Pulling floss straight up may catch the bridge and dislodge it from its anchor. You should also avoid overly sticky foods, which can also weaken your bridge’s bond to your dental implant or crowns.
